Does asking four models take four times as long?
No. It's faster than doing the same check yourself. The models are queried in parallel, so you wait roughly as long as the slowest single model rather than for four answers one after another, and each answer appears the moment that model finishes, so you start reading while the rest are still being written. The bigger saving is the reading. Instead of comparing four long replies yourself to find the one paragraph where they differ, the referee extracts the claims and hands you a ready conclusion: what the panel agreed on, and the short list of points to verify.
Is the AI Council free?
A two-model council (a Duet) runs free within the daily quota, on a lighter pair of models that answer from memory rather than searching the web. You still get the same referee and the same disagreement table as the paid panels. If several models agree, does that mean the answer is right?
Not by itself. Models are trained on overlapping data and share blind spots, so independent providers can be confidently wrong together. Agreement is evidence, not proof. The signal you can rely on is the opposite one: when models disagree, you know a claim needs checking before you act on it, and the table tells you exactly which one. For medical, legal or financial decisions a council tells you which claims to take to a professional, never which to act on.
